Another ambitious One Thousand Museum by Zaha Hadid Architects building… Geometrically complex Taipei Center for Popular Music… $70 million The Statue of Liberty Museum… Grand Egyptian Museum overlooking the pyramids in Giza… The year 2019 has been a fruitful year for Architecture enthusiasts from all over the globe.

Looking to the year ahead, we wonder what soon-to-be-complete buildings will take our breath in the year 2020.

#1. Jeddah Tower Building

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will soon become home to Jeddah Tower – the tallest structure ever built by humans.

The 1,000-meter-tall (3,280-feet) Jeddah Tower will exceed famous Burj Khalifa by 590 feet and officially become the first structure in the world to surpass the one-kilometer mark.

Stretching far above the clouds, this megatall skyscraper will feature 2.6 million square feet (243,866 square meters) gross floor area, 439 apartments, 200 hotel rooms, and the world’s highest observation deck.

Occasionally since the construction began back in 2013, the completion of Jeddah Tower has been delayed many times due to budget constraints.

Eventually If no critical obstacles arise soon, the grand Jeddah Tower will open its doors to visitors by the end of 2020.

2.Dubai Creek Tower Building

Occasionally Dubai, home to Burj Khalifa, does not want to give up the title of the state with the tallest building in the world just yet.

Consequently the country plans to beat their own record by putting up a new skyscraper called The Creek Tower.

The tower was designed by legendary Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava, and the entire project is estimated to cost $1bn.

Tower’s developer, Emaar, has not yet revealed the exact height of the Dubai Creek Tower.

Another megatall skyscraper set to open in 2020 is located in China. At 729 meters above the ground, this 137-story behemoth will soon become China’s tallest tower.

Thornton Tomasetti, the structural engineers of the project, had to overcome challenges of the strong seismic and wind activity in the region.

Thus they came up with sturdy structural systems made of concrete pile and a network of columns that can support substantial gravity loads.

Because the $4.37 billion tower will accommodate ballrooms, conference center, 276 hotel rooms, 706 residences, and 592.8 meters above the street public observatory.

#4. Tokyo Olympic Stadium

The centerpiece of the 2020 Olympic Games.

Tokyo Olympic Stadium is set to be opened at the end of 2019-beginning of 2020.

The 60,000 capacity stadium.

Was designed by a local architect Kengo Kuma.

Until this project replaced the original design created by Zaha Hadid Architects.

Japanese officials had to vote up this wooden lattice stadium over Zaha’s designs due to budgetary reasons.

The new three-tiered stadium will cost the city $1.5 billion.

Even though Zaha Hadid Architects did not win the tender for Olympic Stadium in Japan.

They continue shaping the face of modern architecture in the UAE.

ZHA have recently brought into life a huge leisure and entertainment destination called Central Hub for Aljada.

Inspired by water droplets, and created with sustainability in mind.

Central Hub for Aljada has already become Sharjah’s fastest-growing residential community.

1.9 million square feet hub will accommodate with public observation tower.

Multiple community centers, play area, outdoor activity area, food truck village, retail zones, water park, extreme sports center, etc.

#6. Spire London Building

Spire London, a 67-story, 861. Suites tower. London’s skyline in 2020.

The Skyscraper will soon take the title of Western Europe’s tallest residential tower.

Spire London will house 861 luxury apartments, five-star international hotel, restaurants, roof terraces, restaurants, shops, and a cinema.

#7 Saudi Arabia Expo 2020 Dubai Pavilion

Saudi Arabia’s pavilion for the upcoming Expo in Dubai has also earned its place among the most anticipated buildings of 2020

The pavilion, designed by Boris Micka Associates, is spanning across 1.3 ha.

It symbolizes a window into the future and will help the visitors to experience the rich heritage and culture of Saudi Arabia.

Construction of the project has started on February 2019.

And should be completed in October.

Just in time for the Expo.
